Biographical Data: 6’3″ 245 – Eastview [Barrie, ON] Hooper lives in Midhurst north of Barrie.
Position: DE – Having seen Hooper in person at the Recruit Family luncheon I can tell you that he is a solidly built young man. He has the size to be a formidable DE.
Honours: In the past year Hooper was Eastview’s Athlete of the Year, Defensive Lineman of the Year, and a team captain. In 2011 he was Rookie of the Year for the Eastview Sr squad. Previously with the Jr team he was Rookie of the Year in 2009 and Defensive Player of the Year in 2010. Hooper didn’t play OVFL or OFC football but he did make it through Team Ontario tryouts to be invited to the team’s final scrimmage in both 2012 and 2013. Only an injury and a personal issue kept him from participating in those scrimmages. A hard worker, Hooper holds Eastview’s records in the squat and deadlift at 485 and 590 lbs. respectively.
My Take: I haven’t found any video of Hooper to look at. But I think given the recommendation of Eastview coaches Martin Karl and Jeremy Oxley he needs to be taken seriously. These Eastview coaches have previously sent linemen Cam Thorn, Jake Piotrowski and Graham Jewson to Guelph. Add to that his academic record and status as Class Valedictorian and Hooper is the kind of student-athlete that every program wants.
