Guelph Gryphons helmet history

From Jim Mullin’s The Edmonton Eskimos Ruined My Childhood blog:

Guelph-helmet-history

This history will have to be updated again soon as the Gryphons will unveil another new helmet design. They hope to have delivery of some of the new helmets in time for the Gryphon Football Gala. The new helmet will definitely be a one-of-a-kind look in the CIS.

Mullin is adding to the helmet history of CIS teams almost daily. You can view the helmet histories of McMaster, Queen’s, WLU , plus other OUA/CIS.

The helmet history is great but one listed helmet era requires some changes. The base red helmet with yellow facemask and no stripes was actually used from 1980 to at least 1994 and not just to 1989. I played on the 1991 and 1992 teams and was also part of the team staff for the 1993 team and the base red helmet with yellow facemask with no stripes was in place until then. In 1995, the team added a white stripe down the center in addition to the base red helmet with yellow facemask. The helmet design in 1996 onwards is accrurate. My two cents.
