Free agent Finley signs with Argos

With potential free agents Rob Maver, Cam Thorn and Jake Reinhart all re-signing with their teams back in December it was a fairly quiet day for former Gryphons when the CFL’s free agent signing period kicked off Tuesday.

The lone Guelph grad to make a move was defensive lineman Jeff Finley. He signed with the Toronto Argonauts after spending 3 years with the Montreal Alouettes.

In the Toronto Sun’s report – Argos active in free agency – there are a few comments about Finley made by Toronto’s assistant GM Spencer Zimmerman …

The 6-foot-3, 260-pound product of the University of Guelph will have an opportunity to carve out a much bigger role in the Argos’ defensive line rotation.

“If you throw on his tape, he flashed as an active guy and he’s very versatile, he has range, he has the ability to convert his speed into some power and he’s a leverage player that can actually push the pocket for more of an undersized guy,” Zimmerman said.

When I said … “it was a fairly quiet day for former Gryphons”, I was only talking about players. It was probably one of the more hectic and important days of the year for Kyle Walters, Mike O’Shea and Curtis Rukavina in their management and coaching capacities.

There seems to be a fair bit of confidence in the Winnipeg Blue Bombers community with the work that General Manager Kyle Walters has been doing.
