♦ It’s only Week 2 of the CFL season and I see that the Argonauts have already moved rookie LB Curtis Newton from their practice roster to their active roster. I expect we will see him playing on Special Teams tonight versus the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The 6’2″ 220-pound Newton, who wore #73 in the preseason, will be wearing #45 for the Double Blue tonight. The game kicks off at 10 pm in Regina and will be on TSN.
If Newton does make his CFL debut tonight it will be a the tender age of 21. If you check out his Argonauts.ca bio don’t believe everything you read. Newton played his high school football at London’s A.B. Lucas, not Mt Douglas SS in Victoria, BC. Good luck Curtis!
♦ The Calgary Stampeders Friday night game might also be a big game for another former Gryphon. The Stamps depth chart for the Canada Day game
hasn’t been released yet but news reports make it sound like has now been released and Cam Thorn will get his first-ever start at Centre at any level. That is a nice opportunity for the converted D-Lineman who was released by the BC Lions just 3 days before this season’s training camp and signed with the Stamps back on June 8.
The Stampeders vs Winnipeg Blue Bombers game on Friday night is another 10 pm kickoff and will be broadcast on TSN. Good luck Cam!
