James is CFC’s #36 rated prospect in Canada. Last summer James won a Silver medal playing for Team Canada at the IFAF World Junior Championships in Kuwait. Ranked as the #75 in the country in 2014 by CFC … #5 ranked running back in Canada according to Top Prospects … James was the #1 offensive star on Team Ontario squad that won a bronze medal in the 2013 Football Canada Cup. James was named to the FCC All Star team and twice named the Offensive Player of the Game … Originally from Windsor, James played for the Essex Ravens and was a 2012 OVFL All Star and leading rusher in JV with 1455 yards in 8 games … WECSSAA 1st team All Star who accumulated over 12,000 yards and 67 touchdowns during his HS career at Windsor’s Catholic Central… an OFSAA Gold medalist in the long jump.
Khaliel James is one of five running backs in the 2015 recruiting class. But I’m really not sure whether to categorize James as a running back or a slotback. He has been generally listed as an RB on previous teams but James has the tools to play multiple positions in the Guelph offense. I think Guelph looks to utilize his potential at one of the X or Y receiver positions or H-Back and not necessarily tailback. With his versatility and experience I expect coaches would be comfortable leaving him on the field when they go with 3 in the backfield.
James gives OC Galloway another of the speedy, versatile athletes he has been looking for. James has the talent to play several different positions which may make it possible for him to see some early playing time. I certainly think he will be physically ready to play. An extremely hard worker in the weight-room I expect he’ll come in at 200 pounds and still run a 4.5 sec 40. I can’t think of a previous instance when Guelph has ever landed a recruit of this calibre out of Windsor. That, in and of itself, makes James’ commitment significant and represents a major breakthrough for Gryphon recruiting.
Odds & Ends
♦ James’ teammates with Team Canada in Kuwait included Gryphon players Nick Parisotto and Royce Metchie.
♦ As a high school senior James won a WESPY award as the Top Male Athlete in Windsor-Essex over adults including college athletes.
