Tough running QB Job Reinhart lowers the boom on defender

Tough running QB Job Reinhart lowers the boom on defender

The Basics

Name:  Job Reinhart
Position:  Linebacker & Long Snapper [formerly QB]
Height:  6 feet
Weight:  210 pounds
High School:  Guelph CVI [Guelph, ON]
Summer Club:  Guelph Jr Gryphons [OFC]

Background

Reinhart is transitioning to linebacker this summer with the Jr Gryphons after a long career as a quarterback. He has also taken up long snapping like his older brother. Reinhart was a D10 All Star QB in 2013 & 2012 and D10 All Star Honourable Mention in 2011 … led a GCVI offense that averaged 35 points per game in 2013. Reinhart tossed 14 touchdown passes and rushed for 6 more TDs. The Green Gaels were 5-1 in the regular season. Last summer in the OFC Varsity league Reinhart completed 52 passes for 913 yards while rushing 57 times for 301 yards [5.3 ypc]. The Varsity Junior Gryphons run the ball 70% of the time. Reinhart had 6 passing, 5 rushing TDs and was named to the All Star team. Reinhart was an OVFL JV All Star QB in 2012.

Commitment Breakdown

Job Reinhart will be one four freshmen linebackers coming into training camp next month. Linebackers Fraser Speakman & Jacob Harpell have graduated. Veteran starters Rush (5th), Newton (4th + CFL possibilities) & Myers (4th) are expected back in 2015 but might all be in their final season. Reinhart & his fellow freshmen will be competing for positions on the depth chart, the dress roster and special teams with other seven returnees, and to position themselves for bigger roles in 2016.

My Take

Reinhart is a good pickup regardless of what position he plays. He’s a stud athlete with accomplishments beyond football – i.e. wrestling and T&F. At 6′ & 210 pounds he is almost as big and almost as strong as brother Jake was in 5th year, so he is “physically ready to play”. Continuing the family connection while keeping the best of D10 talent in Guelph is also important in my books. As a newly converted LB I would expect Reinhart to redshirt in 2015 while he learns the position, unless he wins a special teams spot, and compete in 2016. Purely speculation on my part … but Reinhart’s straight ahead running style from the gun reminds me so much of Tahj Boyd [Clemson QB 2010-2013] that I think he would be an excellent short yardage specialist. If the QB is a power runner and doesn’t have to hand the ball off you gain an extra blocker for those tough yards.

Odds & Ends

♦  Following the path of his older brother Jake who concentrated on LB after originally planning to play QB. Job will also work to develop his long snapping and, I’m sure, hopes to follow his brother to the CFL.
♦  Won an OFSAA Bronze medal this spring as a Wrestler – 120Kg Class [Heavyweight]. He had never wrestled before taking up the sport last fall. Reinhart will also compete as a wrestler for the Gryphons.
♦  Placed 1st in the Shotput and 3rd in the Discus at 2015 CWOSSA Track & Field meet.
