Six Gryphons invited to CFL combine

The Vanier Cup. Grey Cup. Recruiting announcements. Free agency. CFL combine. Spring Practice. East-West Bowl. CFL Draft.

CFL combineIt’s that time of year. The CFL has started to send out invitations to the prospective players that it wants to attend its Regional Combines and, hopefully, the National Combine. If you’ve read any of my speculations about which Gryphons were on the radar of CFL scouts and player personnel people you won’t be surprised by this list.

Receiving invites to the CFL’s Toronto Regional Combine, one of three the league holds, are DE Cam Walker, LB John Rush, QB Jazz Lindsey, REC Alex Charette, LS Dan MacDonald and P/K Daniel Ferraro. All six of these players were members of Head Coach Stu Lang’s first recruiting class at Guelph, the 2011 Recruiting Class.

Congratulations! But this is only the next step in a process. There are no guarantees that an invitation will lead to a player being drafted or signed. It is just an opportunity, not given to many, to impress CFL teams. Mind you, no one reaches this point without several CFL teams indicating an interest in that specific player.

John Rush was selected as an OUA All Star in 2012 and played in the 2013 East-West Bowl as a sophomore. Cam Walker, Jazz Lindsey and Alex Charette all played in the 2014 East-West Bowl. Walker is 3-time OUA All Star while Charette was named to the team in 2014. Jazz Lindsey was previously invited to the CFL Combine in 2013 to throw in the 1-on-1 drills and participated in the CFL’s QB development program by attending the Toronto Argonauts 2014 training camp.

Good luck! Work hard, keep a positive attitude and know there are many people wishing all of you the best. No matter what happens with regards to the CFL, your hard work on the field and results you have produced have made many, including myself, proud to say they are a Gryphon. Keep it up!
