Guelph has received a commitment from one of the top receiver prospects in the country. Kade Belyk of Dr. Martin LeBoldus CHS in Regina is the latest addition to the Gryphon’s 2015 recruiting class. Not only was Belyk a two-time conference all star for the LeBoldus Golden Suns but he starred for Team Saskatchewan in this summer’s Football Canada Cup. Belyk was named to the FCC All Star team and also earned a place on Football Canada’s U18 National Junior Team which will play Team USA U18 squad in the 2015 International Bowl.
At LeBoldus Belyk played as a slot receiver and frequently carried the ball. In 2013 & 2014 he accumulated 406 yards on 26 carries in addition to 1306 yards on 51 receptions. In his last two seasons Belyk scored 28 touchdowns [25 receiving & 3 rushing], plus several others as a returner I believe. Belyk won three City & three Provincial Championships with the Golden Suns. All of the above accomplishments and his physical abilities earned him a place on CFC’s Top 100 prospects list for 2015. Belyk is the #79 ranked prospect in Canada regardless of position.

My Take: I can’t think of another Gryphon who has ever hailed from this prairie province. In fact, few top Saskatchewan prospects ever leave the province even for other Canada West teams. I can’t help but think this reflects the increasing strength of the Gryphon brand. Certainly, I expect Belyk was also attracted to the renewed vitality of the Gryphon offense as the team boosted its scoring output by more than 10 points per game in 2014 and wants to be a part of Guelph’s future as a steady Top 5 CIS program. The Gryphons were the #2 scoring offense in the OUA and #4 in the CIS averaging 42.1 points per game in 2014. Belyk’s addition will help the Gryphon offense to continue to perform at an elite level.
