Players of the Week – Daniel Ferraro, Iain Hutchison & Jazz Lindsey

OFFENSE – Jazz Lindsey – QB – Villanova College, Markham ON
DEFENSE – Iain Hutchison – DB – Superior Heights, Sault Ste Marie ON
SPECIALS – Daniel Ferraro – P/K – St Marcellinus. Mississauga, ON

I can’t disagree with’s assessment that Ferraro “… might be the hottest kicker in the country right now”. [Read the full Player-of-the-Week announcement here.] He has hit 5 FGs in back-to-back games. Honestly, back on the weekend I was thinking Ferraro is a likely choice for CIS Special Teams Player of the Week. We’ve already heard today that Ferraro won OUA Player of the Week honours. In the preseason I wrote what I was really looking for from the kicking game was more consistency. Ferraro has improved his kicking AND become more consistent. Meanwhile, Hutchison, who leads the Gryphons on the season with 34 tackles – 31 solo & 6 assists, earns his first Player of the Game honours with a performance that included 9 solo tackles, including a TFL, and a pass breakup. Lindsey is playing the best football of his Gryphon career. Friday night Jazz connected on 20 of his 33 passes for 291 yards, one touchdown and zero  interceptions. He also ran the ball six times for 56 yards, an average of 9.3 yards per carry, and a touchdown, before giving way to James Roberts.

Ok its Friday and the biggest game of the season is almost here. In years past the Gryphon players were open about their bitterness towards the Mustangs (I hope it still exists!). There is no place for best efforts, this is about each Gryphon player being better than his rival, its about winning. Jazz lead us to the win!
