Recruit profile: Quincy Reid

QReid TD-1QReid TD-2

Biographical Data: 5’10″ 165  – Waterdown DHS [Waterdown ON] & Hamilton Hurricanes of the OFC

Position: Receiver – most likely a slotback. Plays wideout for the Canes but was more of a running back/slotback at Waterdown. He was also an outstanding returner for his HS team.

Recruit Q Reid Accomplishments: This has been a big week for Reid. He was named to the 2014 OFC Varsity All Star team, then helped lead his Hurricanes to their second consecutive OFC Varsity Championship … Reid caught 3 passes and scored the 3rd-Q TD that put the Canes in the lead for good.  … on the season Reid led the Canes in receiving yards and receiving TDs [tied] … in high school Reid led the Warriors with 11 TDs in 2013, including 3 in a win against Westdale the eventual Hamilton Public & SOSSA champs.

My Take: I like that Reid comes from a solid HS program that has sent some pretty good players to Guelph in the not too distant past – Chris Decker, Jeff Cain, David Harrison come to mind. Waterdown has been one of the most consistently competitive teams in Hamilton Public Tier 1 football. Reid was likely the most explosive player in that league in 2013. I saw his Warriors win a game where Reid drew so much coverage that he opened up many other options for his teammates. In that game his speed and athleticism was really on display on special teams. Reid’s addition should add to the competition at the receivers positions. While he has the talent to compete for a position, a redshirt season might actually benefit him in the long term as he adjusts to the size and speed differences at the OUA level.
