Biographical Info: 6’4″ 285 – Resurrection CSS [Kitchener, ON] & Cambridge Lions of the OVFL

Position: Offensive lineman – Pickett looks very versatile. He has played tackle and guard, on the left-side and the right. He was even used as a blocking back and long-snapper on punts at Resurrection. I think he will likely play guard at Guelph.

Accomplishments:  Ranked as the #30 prospect in the country by CFC … Ron Dias of All Canada Gridiron called Pickett the best O-Line prospect in the 2014 class … back in February he played for Football Canada’s U18 team that defeated Team USA 53-9 in Texas … a starter on the 2013 Team Ontario squad that captured a bronze medal at the Football Canada Cup … his Resurrection Phoenix team reached the Waterloo County championship game and finished the season ranked #24 in the country… named a WCSSAA first team All Star in 2013 … a 2013 OVFL All Star for the Cambridge Lions … played for the GHR All Stars vs the GTA in 2012 … MVP at the All-Pro Football Camp in 2012 … a multi-time high school athlete of the year.

Accomplished beyond just football, in 2012 Pickett set three World Records in his age group (16-17) when competing at the Canadian Powerlifting Federation’s National Championships … and not just incredibly strong, he runs the 40-yard dash in under 5.2 seconds, an outstanding time for someone his size. His 4.8 sec 20-yard shuttle is also impressive.

My Take: I love this statement from a CFC profile last year … “A dominant force, Andrew Pickettt’s strength is off the charts, and he has the world records to prove it.” But then you add his speed, athleticism and size to that, and he fits perfectly the OL type that Guelph is looking for. The departure of four veteran OLs leaves a large opening on the dress roster. I think Pickett is probably ready to compete for one of those places as a freshman. Watch his highlight videos and you will see his speed. When he pulls he is able to get out and stay ahead of the RB. He gets to the second level very quickly. He is always hustling and looking to find another player to block downfield. In the first video [2013 HS season] he wears #56 and is mostly lined up at right tackle.
