We are 50 days away from the opening of the OUA football season. The Gryphons kick off the regular season at McMaster on Monday, September 1. Four other OUA openers take place that day – Queen’s @ Windsor, York @ Ottawa, Carleton @ Waterloo and Laurier @ Toronto. All games but the one at UofT are 1 o’clock starts. The UofT game is at 7 pm.

Good news! I finally see that season tickets are available for purchase on-line. Go to  gryphons.ca/tickets to buy yours. The $60 season pass saves you 15% over buying individual game tickets and guarantees you a seat for the always sold-out Homecoming Game.

Don’t forget about the Friends of Gryphon Football Annual Golf Tournament on Friday, August 15. Register now as an individual or in a foursome – FoGF Golf Tourney.

Congratulations to Jake Piotrowski who was added to the active roster of the Montreal Alouettes this week. He played in his first CFL regular season game last night. Piotrowski became the third Gryphon this year to make that big step to the professional ranks. In that game the Winnipeg Blue Bombers overcame a late deficit for a come-from-behind win on the road. You have to be happy for Kyle Walters and Mike O’Shea with what they have done to turn the Bombers around.

On Thursday Team Canada won their second game at the 2014 IFAF Junior World Championships. It was a 56-0 triumph over France. Here is a game story with a link to the game stats – Canada cruises to 56-0 win. Canada outgained the French 500 yards to 42. Khaliel James rushed 7 times for 54 yards and caught 2 passes. Royce Metchie intercepted a pass and was in on 3 tackles. Canada plays Austria tomorrow in their final preliminary round game. Hopefully the Austrians present a more significant challenge.

Best of luck to Team Ontario tonight as they take on Saskatchewan in the Gold Medal Game at the Football Canada Cup. Watch the live feed of the 9 pm EST game in Saskatoon here. If I’m not mistaken Ontario hasn’t won a Gold Medal since 2004. Ontario has already knocked off the 3-time defending champion Quebec. Complete the job! Win the Gold!
