Khaliel James is one of three members of the 2014 Gryphon recruiting class who will be playing for Team Canada at the IFAF Junior World Championships which begin July 7. James, Nick Parisotto and Royce Metchie are currently at Team Canada’s training camp in Italy.
Biographical Data: 6’1″ 195 – Catholic Central [Windsor ON] & Essex Ravens of the OVFL
Position: Running back/slotback – generally listed as an RB but James has the tools to play multiple positions in the Guelph offense. I think Guelph looks to utilize his potential at one of the slot receiver positions first.
Accomplishments: Ranked as a Top 100 prospect [#75] in the country by CFC … #5 ranked running back in Canada according to Top Prospects … James was the #1 offensive star on Team Ontario squad in the 2013 Football Canada Cup that won a bronze medal. James was named to the FCC All Star team and twice named the Offensive Player of the Game … Played for Team Canada U-18 in the 2014 International Bowl Series where he played well enough to earn a place on the Junior National team … 2012 OVFL All Star and leading rusher in JV with 1455 yards … WECSSAA 1st team All Star who accumulated over 12,000 yards and 67 touchdowns during his HS career … an OFSAA Gold medalist in the long jump … a member of Ontario’s top-ranked ‘AAA’ high school basketball team. The Central Catholic Comets won OFSAA Gold in 2012 & 2013, Silver in 2014 … Winner of a WESPY award as the Top Male Athlete in Windsor-Essex.
My Take: James gives OC Galloway another of the speedy, versatile athletes he has been looking for. James has the talent to play several different positions which may make it possible to him to earn an early place on the dress roster. I certainly think he will be physically ready to play. An extremely hard worker in the weight-room I expect he’ll come in at 200 pounds and still run a sub 4.5 sec 40. I can’t think of a previous instance when Guelph has ever landed a recruit of this calibre out of Windsor. That, in and of itself, makes James’ commitment significant and represents a major breakthrough for Gryphon recruiting.
