Golf news for UofG

web_ad_golfIt sounds like yesterday’s President’s Golf Tournament was a big success. Certainly the weather was nice enough. The high-priced tourney [$400 per person entry fee] raises funds for athletic scholarships at the University of Guelph. It was nice the hear that five parents of current Gryphon football players were a part of it. There may have been others but I did hear that James Case [Tyler’s dad] and a foursome of Gryphon moms – Lori Wilhelm, Sherilyn Walker, Bruna Ferraro and Chris Gerrie – were out on the links supporting the UofG Department of Athletics and the drive to fund more Athletic Financial Awards. The sheer honesty of the moms netted them the tourney’s “Most Likely to Improve” award. 🙂

All Gryphon football alumni, players and supporters with an interest in golf will want to take note of the fact that the registration links for the Annual Friends of Gryphon Football Golf Tournament are now open. Alumnus and Peel Region recruiter for the Gyrphons, Stephen O’Brien is heading up the organizing this year. He is ably assisted by his wife Melissa Very and the usual suspects – Bill Brown and Randy Dimitroff, among others. You can find the registration links and Steve’s contact info here.

There is a third golf tournament on the Gryphon calendar – the 2nd Annual David Pallett Memorial Golf Tournament on Monday, September 29. The tourney will be played at the Piper’s Heath Golf Club in Milton. A Guelph grad, David Pallett played both hockey and football for the Gryphons in the 1960s. The on-line registration link is here.
