News release today from gryphons.ca – Gryphon QB Jazz Lindsey invited to Toronto Argonauts Training Camp
Fourth-year Gryphons quarterback Jazz Lindsey will be showcasing his talents on another stage this summer as he’ll be attending training camp with the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts.
Lindsey earned his spot at the camp following his East West all-star game selection. This will be his first time participating at a CFL training camp. The initative, started by the CFL is to develop Canadian quarterbacks. He will be expected to be present from the first day of rookie camp on May 27 through to the first exhibition game. The approximate 10 days in attendance will include on-field coaching and meetings in the classroom.
The invitation by the Argo’s is a great step in the young quarterback’s development both on and off the field.
“We are very pleased with Jazz’s progression this offseason he is showing a greater understanding of both the offense and what it takes to be a leader at this level,” said Gryphon offensive coordinator Todd Galloway. “He recognizes that in his last few years he has gotten by on his athletic ability but he wants to take the next step which is mental.”
This past season Lindsey helped lead the Gryphons to a 7-1 regular season record and was a part of a 14-game regular season win streak dating back to 2012. He finished the year with 1805 yards through 136-240 attempts including 13 touchdowns. The Gryphons finished the season with a loss to the Queens Gaels in the semi-finals.
Looking ahead, Guelph will commence their 2014 regular season on the road at McMaster on Labour Day and then host their first home game at alumni stadium on September 6 against the Toronto Varsity Blues.
“We are excited about the prospect of this coming season and his future. With Jazz’s athletic ability and his progression as a cerebral QB, his future and are our future is very bright.”
