Two members of the Guelph Gryphons’ 2014 recruiting class received exciting news this week. Guelph Lourdes defensive back Nick Parisotto and Windsor Catholic Central running back Khaliel James were named to the 45-man roster of Football Canada’s Junior National Team that will play at the IFAF Junior World Championships in Kuwait this July.
Previously, Parisotto earned a spot on the 60-man roster of the U19 Team Canada squad that played Team USA at the International Bowl in Arlington, TX last month. Tryouts for the U19 team were held across Canada and brought out more than 500 hopefuls. At the same International Bowl series in Texas, Khaliel James played for the Team Canada U18 squad. He made that team by virtue of an outstanding performance at the 2013 Football Canada Cup in Moncton, NB. James was a tournament All Star and the offensive MVP for Team Ontario in two of their three games. The International Bowl event allowed coaches to evaluate over 100 players on the two squads through a week of practice and in game situations before making the final selections.
Joining Parisotto and James in Kuwait for the IFAF Junior World Championships will be Guelph Defensive Coordinator Kevin MacNeill. He is serving as Team Canada’s linebackers coach. You can find Football Canada’s announcement with the complete roster and coaching staff here.
