The CFL’s process for evaluating draft eligible Canadian players and free agent talent has been evolving in recent years. The process will look a little different again in 2014. The league will hold three regional combines – Edmonton, Montreal & Toronto – prior to the Evaluation Camp which runs March 21-23 in Toronto. While fewer players are getting invites directly to the E-Camp, more are being given an opportunity to show their stuff, and earn the ultimate invite, at the regional combines.
What hasn’t changed is the CFL is interested in Gryphon players. Running back Rob Farquharson is one of “the top 40 players eligible for the upcoming CFL Draft on May 13”. As such, Farquharson has received an invitation to the “National CFL Combine presented by Reebok”, the official new name for E-Camp. Defensive tackle Jeff Finley, defensive back Taylor Palmer and wide receiver Saxon Lindsey have all been invited to participate in the Toronto Regional Combine on March 20 and have the opportunity to earn an invite to the National Combine.
This article posted yesterday at CFL.ca explains in more detail how things work and contains links to the complete lists of participants.
BTW Farquharson and Finley are both draft eligible in 2014. Palmer and Lindsey are considered free agents.
