Game 7 preview: Carleton Ravens

Last night I made the decision not to make the trip to Ottawa to watch tonight’s game. It will be the first Gryphon football game I’ve missed since September 13, 2008, a Saturday night game in Windsor. Actually, breaking my consecutive game streak is my biggest regret as I don’t think the game itself will be anything special. [That, and missing the post-game party at the home of Gryphon parents Tim & Kelly-Anne Baines :)]

Carleton logoI also would have liked to have seen the facilities and operation at Carleton firsthand. The Raven’s football program is in their first season of play after a 15 year hiatus. But the game itself will likely be the least competitive of the season. As you would expect a fledgling program like the Ravens is struggling. They are the only winless team in the OUA. And their losses haven’t come in close games.

My Thoughts: The Gryphons ought to treat this like an exhibition game. Rest anyone who needs it. Play everyone who dresses. Work on tuning up the things that need it before the Queen’s game next week. I think they can do those things and still dominate the Ravens.

I would really like to see a solid game from the offense with 500+ yards. I will really be looking for more discipline from the O in the form of fewer penalties. The offense has been making progress – 3 consecutive weeks with a 100-yd rusher, solid play from the O-Line – and we really need for that to continue because this is the unit in particular that hasn’t really played to its potential. With a large advantage in talent and experience our I look for our O-Line to dominate Carleton and paving the way for a big game.
