Biographical Info: 6’2″ 230 – St Francis [St Catharines, ON] and the OVFL’s Niagara Spears. At St Francis he was a teammate of Alex Charette and Brian Schenck back in 2011. He is one of two members of 2013 Spears in this recruiting class –  Eric Denis is the other.

Position:  LB – Florez was an outstanding two-way player at St Francis. And he is an excellent long snapper. His true position is Mac linebacker in my opinion. That is the defensive position he played in high school and with the Spears. Florez has the size to play the middle in the CIS.

Honours:  Florez played in back-to-back Niagara AA Championship games. His St Francis Phoenix team won the second time around. Florez was the anchor of this year’s Spears defense and led the team in OVFL’s defensive stats with 90 regular season points. The 2013 Spears were 8-2 and reached the OVFL championship game for the first time since 2005. A multi-sport athlete Florez has also been a member of an outstanding Phoenix basketball squad which has won multiple tournaments, city championships and was a #3 seed at OFSAA.

My Take:  I have watched Florez play in person at least four times. At 230lbs and very mobile he was a force at Mac LB for the Spears. He is a hard hitter, a sure tackler and did a great job of pressuring the passer. He is a prototypical middle linebacker and an excellent student athlete. Florez missed the first week of training camp in order to play in the OVFL championship and thus will likely redshirt this season while playing on the scout team.

NOTE: I did not find an video highlights for Alan Florez.
