Recruit profile: Bryce Hines

Bryce Hines

Biographical Data:  6’3 180 – St Marguerite d’Youville [Brampton, ON] and the Brampton Bulldogs of the OVFL. Hines joins his d’Youville and Bulldogs teammate Jadon Johnson in this recruiting class. Hines will study Criminal Justice and Public Policy.

Position:  DB – Hines helped the Panthers in many ways including as an outstanding punt and kick returner. He played corner for the Panthers but he has the size that would make you think he could play almost any position in the defensive backfield.

Honours:  Hines’ D’Youville team won two ROPSSAA titles – 2010 and 2012. Hines was the team’s Defensive MVP in 2011 and 2012. He also won the Brampton Bulldogs Paul Boswell Award as that team’s Most Valuable Defensive Player in 2011.

My Take:  It is a rare player who can combine the height [6’3″] of Hines with the athleticism and speed to excel as a CIS level DB. [My son was one of the few.] But that unique combination makes Hines a rare and valuable commodity. Guelph used him at corner in the scrimmage with Western Ontario but I think he might be able to play at several different positions depending on need. He impressed me as being very physical with his play in London.
