I’m not really surprised by the news as I saw Rob Farquharson “come up lame” after a big run at last Friday’s practice but still it is disappointing. Better to let him heal it properly than reinjure it – hamstring injuries are notorious for that. Our early season schedule doesn’t require that he be pressed back into service too soon. I’d rather see him at 100% late in the season than have him playing too soon.
Sunday’s game will be a great opportunity to see just how good our freshmen running backs are. The Mercury story suggests veteran Cory Davidson would likely start at the tailback spot but that would surprise me. I expect we will see one of the freshmen start at TB with several of them dressed. I would almost expect the coaches to let a pair of them share the load. From what I’ve heard Mason Swift was working at H-back, so that leaves redshirt Rob Carnegie and true freshmen Johnny Augustine and Bryson Dobush. Carnegie with a year in the program would have the best understanding of the playbook but Augustine and Dobush are amazing athletes with greater speed. The other possibilities are freshman Brandon Gordon and 3rd year Steven Gauntlet, though Gauntlet has been on the sidelines for much of training camp after a strong spring showing.
