Biographical Data: 5’11″ 175 – West Vancouver SS [West Vancouver, BC]. Franklin will be the second West Van Highlander on the Guelph roster, joining redshirt freshman DB Jake Pinnock.
Position: Receiver – Franklin played quarterback his senior year, his only as a QB, and had an outstanding season. His athleticism is unquestionable and IMO makes him a potential huge threat at one of the slot positions – i.e. X or Y receiver.
Honours: The Vancouver Province wrote, “… perhaps the most dynamic duo in the province, the West Vancouver pair of receiver Blake Whiteley and quarterback Johnny Franklin.”
North Shore News wrote, “… one of the greatest individual performances the province has ever seen. Quarterback Johnny Franklin threw for 317 yards and six touchdowns while also rushing for 114 yards and two more scores in a 62-30 win over New Westminster on Oct. 26 ….”
Franklin led his team to their first playoff appearance since 2007. So far as I can tell he may have been BC’s passing yardage leader. He definitely led the province late in the regular season.
My Take: This young man is a great athlete. Be sure to watch his video highlights on Hudl. He has almost 4 minutes of rushing plays. Many are Johnny Manziel-like scrambles. It is easy to see that he has the potential to be a very elusive receiver. While I heard months ago of Franklin’s commitment to Guelph I did not realize until I did recent research how good a prospect we were really getting. Very nice to see that for the second year in a row we have landed some top BC talent.
