Back in January 2012 I wrote a post about the offense that new OC Todd Galloway brought to Guelph. That post essentially serves as a primer for the offense. I acknowledge that it was a simplistic, first attempt to share some info about it. I wrote about my intent to write more about it here, here and here. The latter link talks about parallels to the University of Oregon.
I said fourteen months ago I wanted to share links to the outstanding Oregon blog of Charles Fischer – fishduck.com. He has produced some excellent tutorials on some of the basic plays of the Oregon Spread offense. There are significant similarities between some of the plays that the Ducks run and those that the Gryphons use. BTW Guelph coaches Stu Lang, Todd Galloway and Mike MacDonald visited with Chip Kelly, the architect of the Oregon offense, back in the spring of 2012.
One of the primary plays in Guelph’s successful 2012 season and the breakout season of TB Rob Farquharson was the inside zone read. Here is the link to Fischer’s breakdown of that play – The Inside Zone Read Tutorial. The youtube video version of the tutorial is below:
