You know the OUA football season is getting close when you see team previews starting to appear. The first Guelph preview I’ve seen was up on the CIS website earlier this week. Read it here. The intro:
Expectations are high for the Gryphons entering the 2013 campaign following one of their best regular season finishes in school history. The veteran-laden lineup features 16 possible starters from last year’s squad that finished with a 7-1 record and Yates Cup finalists. Guelph has 10 starters back in the fold on offence and six on defence allowing the team to hit the ground running from day one.
Sports Eh! has produced previews on every team in the OUA except for last year’s Yates Cup finalists – Guelph and McMaster. I imagine this is a case of “saving the best for last”. I fully expect to see them any day now. You can find the team previews for Queen’s, Western, Laurier et al, here.
Even better than the team previews Sports Eh! has this week released their EH-TEAM PREDICTIONS: Who Is #1? 2013 OUA Football Pre-Season Rankings. The four prognosticators give the Gryphons a good deal of respect with none of them ranking the Gryphs lower than third in the OUA.
Canada Football Chat is also producing CIS team previews. You can find the York Lions preview here. But the Waterloo, Windsor and Laurier previews are all hidden behind a pay-wall. I’m not sure what to expect with the seven previews yet to be released.

In the traditional print media the Hamilton Spectator has turned out some recent articles related to OUA football. Most of them written by Ken Peters. And most have a local Hamilton/Burlington angle but not necessarily a McMaster focus. Check these out:
Steeltown boys set to rebuild Ravens – interesting article if you like to follow recruiting. Quotes from Mac and Carleton head coaches.
Barresi looks to return GeeGees to OUA elite – new uO HC is a Hamilton native.
Finch ready for redemption – UWO QB hopes for better result when he returns “home” this season.
I don’t see it on thespec.com website yet but there was also an article yesterday – Made-in-Burlington quarterbacks excelling – about the success of Burlington QBs in the CIS and at other levels. Guelph transfer QB Mac Blewett [Nelson/SMU] is one of those mentioned.
