Biographical Data: 6’5″ 220 – Adam Scott CVI [Peterborough, ON] & OFC’s Peterborough Wolverines. Lives in Ennismore north of Peterborough. Will study Physics at Guelph. Comes from a renowned hockey family and made a choice between the two sports back in Grade 10.
Being the son of a former NHLer … Committing to football wasn’t an easy call for a kid from a hockey crazy family.
But Alec Reid had to choose the ice or the gridiron in 2009 when the Adam Scott Lions junior football coaches asked him to quarterback the team.
Position: QB – a quarterback without a doubt. Sure he has the frame and mobility to play TE but I don’t see that happening. Barring multiple injuries up the depth chart Reid will have a couple of years to learn the system and develop his skills before competing to be the post-Jazz starter.
Honours & Stats: Led Adam Scott to three ‘AA’ COSSA championships. He captained the team 2 years and was the Offensive Player-of-Year this past season. Prior t0 2013 Reid has played summer ball with the OVFL’s Oshawa Hawkeyes. This year he was the starting QB on the Peterborough Wolverines’ first-ever Varsity football team. In OFC regular season play Reid was 78 of 152 for 1364 yds & 9 TDs. He led Peterborough to a 5-3 record and an upset of the Jr Argos in 1st round playoff action.
My Take: I think Reid has a lot of the qualities you look for in an ideal QB – excellent size, arm strength, mobility, smarts and desire. Short term there is plenty of experience ahead of him – Jazz entering his 3rd yr, Nangle 5th yr and transfer Mac Blewitt 4th yr. Reid, if he puts the work in, has the potential to be a quality CIS starter in my opinion.
