Bryson Dobush – Team Alberta vs Team Quebec in FCC 2012 Gold medal game

Biographical Data:  6’0″ 195 – Bev Facey Composite [Edmonton, AB] & Team Alberta in 2011 & 2012

Position:  RB – I see Dobush as a true tailback at Guelph. That’s not because he couldn’t play H-back. He certainly can catch the ball coming out of the backfield and his 2011 highlights show him getting the job done as a lead blocker. Great athletes can often play multiple positions but his highlights say to me – TAILBACK.

Honours and Stats:  H.S. Rookie of the Year, 2-time Team MVP, 2-time team captain, 2-time starter for Team Alberta and team captain in 2012, Football Canada Cup Offensive MVP. Dobush racked up an amazing 2186 yards and 33 touchdowns in 2012. Those numbers sound inflated until you watch his highlights and see him score on long runs again and again. Dobush also played defense and recorded 37 tackles, 5 interceptions and 2 forced fumbles.

My Take:  Landing a blue chip prospect as highly rated as Dobush is a major accomplishment. I presume Dobush’s recruitment began at the 2011 Football Canada Cup. As I wrote back then it was newly raised money from Friends of Gryphon Football that allowed for Guelph’s expanded recruiting efforts. As good as he is Dobush will have plenty of competition in the Gryphon backfield and that is a very good thing.

I see Dobush fitting very well into Todd Galloway’s offense. He seems to be very strong [his testing numbers verify that], have excellent speed and great vision. I love how he uses his hands to thwart would-be tacklers, sidesteps other tackles and cuts back with great effectiveness. I don’t know how much he will play in 2013 but I expect big things from him in the future.
