This has been a busy weekend for Gryphon football players and some former ones too.
Spring camp got into full swing Friday and continued with power practices Saturday and Sunday. The full Spring practice schedule can be seen on this blog’s Upcoming Events page. Take note that the Spring scrimmage will be Thursday, March 28 @ 5pm in Alumni Stadium. Spectators are welcome and admission is free.
From what I’ve heard as many as ten current and former Gryphon players were participating in Duane Forde’s National Invitational Combine [NIC] on Friday. Among those who had a chance to show off their stuff in front of CFL scouts were Carl Trivieri, Dillon Dimitroff, Jedd Gardner, Saxon Lindsey, Curtis Rukavina and Jake Reinhart. Apparently Gardner had some eye-catching testing numbers including one of the fastest 40-times of any participant while Dimitroff was impressive catching everything thrown near him.

The CFL’s Evaluation Camp runs all weekend. Beginning with interviews Friday night, testing on Saturday and Sunday, and culminating with one-on-ones Sunday afternoon. Gryphon DT Cam Thorn has put up very good numbers in the testing portion of the combine when compared to the other ten OL prospects. Keep in mind, that even though Thorn is listed among DLs he is being looked at as an OL by CFL teams. The full testing results are on cfl.ca and can be viewed here. When it comes to measuring agility Thorn’s 4.448 sec time in the shuttle is faster than any of the ten OLs and his 7.612 sec run puts him second of eleven in the 3-cone drill.
This afternoon sophomore Jazz Lindsey will have a chance to show off his arm as he throws passes in the one-on-one drills. Lindsey won’t be draft eligible until 2015 but this opportunity gives him a chance to become familiar with the E-Camp process and hopefully garner a future invite.
