Tickets for the first Yates Cup semifinal game to be played at Alumni Stadium since 1997 go on sale at noon tomorrow, Wednesday October 17.
The semifinal will be November 3. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. The other OUA semifinal will go at 4:30 p.m. at McMaster. These games will both be broadcast nationally on The Score. And in more good news – The Hill will be open for the game.
With the Hill open and a national television audience watching this would be a great opportunity for the thousands of Guelph students and alumni who weren’t able to get tickets for the Homecoming Game to be a part of a raucous crowd on national TV.
This will be the Gryphons first home playoff game since a quarterfinal match with the Ottawa GeeGees in 2008. The recent standard for a huge playoff crowd and great environment would be the 100th Yates Cup Championship hosted at Alumni Stadium in 2007. That game drew a soldout crowd of 8,500 and is still talked about as one of the best game atmosheres ever at a CIS game.
Back in Novemeber 2007, Tom Kendall, Director of Athletics said “The Yates Cup is the pinnacle of Ontario university football. It’s been a long time since we won it and an even longer time since we hosted it. Hosting this game on campus is a huge opportunity to promote the school, to bring alumni back to campus and to boost school spirit.” With an exciting team, a new turf field and a beautiful video scoreboard all we need to make this a great promotional opportunity is a large and spirited crowd.
Adult tickets are $18 and student tickets $ 10.
