The progress on the field looks great! As good as it looks, it is a long way from being done. Once the turf is rolled out – in pieces 5 yards wide – it all has to be stitched together. The synthetic grass fibres lay relatively flat after having been rolled up. The turf has to be raked/brushed and the rubber pellets spread. The pellets need to penetrate deep into the turf as they are what will hold the fibres upright. The installers will be sewing, spreading and grooming for several weeks. Tickets for the Sept 15 home opener against Waterloo can be purchased now at the gryphons.ca box office.

The Gryphon Elite H.S. Football Camp wrapped up last night. By all accounts it was a big success with 113 registered campers. I was impressed with how well organized it was. There must have been 30-40 coaches, many of them Gryphon players, working with the campers.

It sounds like Guelph’s Homecoming Game on Sept 22 against the UofT will once again be broadcast on University Rush on TheScore. No surprise there. When was the last time a Homecoming Game in Guelph wasn’t broadcast. I expect the Gryphons will be fired up, with revenge on their minds after last season’s upset at Varsity derailed our season.
One word of advice. With the Gryphons’ Labour Day at McMaster falling during Mac’s frosh week it will likely sell out. Tickets for the game went on sale yesterday. They can be ordered online.
