Work is underway at Alumni Stadium!

The Guelph Mercury reports construction of the new turf field and track has begun …

For the next few months, the only thing playing on the field at Alumni Stadium will be backhoes and construction workers.

At the beginning of this week, University of Guelph field on College Avenue began its metamorphosis to become turfed, a process that will likely last until September 1.

“It’ll be one of the premier collegiate fields in the country,” said Brett Ritchie, vice president of Davan Site Contractors.

The stadium will undergo a complete overhaul, including replacing the grass field with turf, resurfacing and widening the existing 400 metre track, installing new stadium lighting, planting and landscaping.

Ritchie said the budget for the project is about $4.9 million.
