Freshman linebacker John Rush has been named to the Canadian National Junior Team. Rush will compete in the 2012 IFAF World Junior Championships in July in Austin, Texas. Rush was a captain and starting MLB of the Team World squad that defeated Team USA 35-29 in the 2012 International Bowl. In his freshman season with the Gryphons, Rush was involved in 42 tackles (22 solo, 20 assts), recorded 3 tackles-for-loss and a sack.
Incoming freshman recruit A’dre Fraser of Halifax, NS also made Canada’s National Junior team as a receiver. The speedster, Fraser, was the Overall MVP and Special Teams Player of the Year for Nova Scotia high school football in 2011. Fraser scored 18 touchdowns in 10 games last season.

Coming up on Sunday, May 6 is the 2nd edition of the GTA vs GHR All Star Classic. It will be played at McMaster’s Ron Joyce Stadium. Kick-off is @ 3pm and tickets are only $5. Why should Gryphon fans be interested in the game? Eleven recruits committed to Guelph will be playing in the game.
For the Golden Horseshoe team – Rec Andrew Wilhelm, OT Kyle Fraser, OC Jamie Lalonde, OT Tyler Case, OT Steve Mburanumwe, DT Zack Mallough, DE Ben Osmow and DB Brandon Hunter. For the GTA team – DB Jordan Mittoo, DB Tristan Doughlin and RB Travis Jennings. Several Guelph coaches have key roles with the GHR team – Todd Galloway – Offensive Coordinator, Bill Brown – Defensive Coordinator, Mike MacDonald – Offensive Line, Mark Antonelli & Jerry Philip – DB coaches.

The Gryphon Cheerleading team, fresh off a gold medal performance in the Cheer Evolution National Championships in Kitchener, headed to the Reach the Beach Nationals competition late last month in Daytona Beach, FL.
The Gryphon ladies placed first in the All-Girl Level 6 division. They were also the Grand Champions of their overall division.
