Another stud DB prospect from the GTA has committed to Guelph. Tristan Doughlin was a 5’11” 180-pound safety with Toronto’s 2011 champions – Northern Secondary School. The Northern Red Knights were 8-2 and reached the Metro Bowl semi-finals where they lost to eventual champions Donald A Wilson. Doughlin was a two-time captain with the senior Red Knights squad. During the 2011 season Doughlin came up big producing turnovers with 5 INTs and a forced fumble. He scored a TD as a receiver.
In addition to high school ball, Doughlin has played four seasons with the OVFL’s Metro Toronto Wildcats. In 2010 Doughlin was the Defensive Player of the Year for the JV team. That season his OVFL stats included 49 tackles (24 solo, 25 assists), 4 pass break-ups and 2 interceptions, one he returned 32-yards for a pick-6. In 2011, his first season with the Varsity squad, Doughlin was awarded the Wildcats’ Hammer Award, given to the team’s hardest hitter. His 2011 Wildcats teammates included Gryphon QB Jazz Lindsey and fellow recruit Travis Jennings. Doughlin’s impressive play earned him a spot in the OVFL’s 2011 Prospects game. He was impressive in the tryouts and earned a spot on the GTA All Star team. He will play in the defensive backfield with another future Gryphon, Jordan Mittoo, in the May 6 game.
