The University of Guelph’s Dept. of Athletics confirmed today what I had been hearing for a while. The three Gryphons who will participate in the 2012 East-West Bowl on May 12 are receiver Dillon Dimitroff, defensive tackle Cam Thorn and offensive tackle Jake Piotrowski. All three players were members of the 2009 recruiting class and have been major contributors at Guelph.
Dimitroff is a 6’0″ 185lb wideout from Burlington [Notre Dame]. In 2011 Dimitroff was 2nd on the team in receiving yardage and tops in yards-per-catch [19.9].
Thorn is a 6’5″ 290lb 1-tech DT from Midhurst [Eastdale SS, Barrie]. In 2011 Thorn was involved in 27 tackles [12 solo, 15 assists]. He also recorded 3.5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks and blocked a pass.
Piotrowski is a 6’4″ 295lb OT from Shanty Bay [Eastdale SS, Barrie]. He has started the past two years at two different positions – right gaurd in 2010 and left tackle in 2011.
The gryphons.ca article also includes this detail – “Gryphon coaches Kevin MacNeill and Greg Butler were named to the West Team as Assistant coaches.” This would seem to confirm that Gregg Butler, the veteran CFL coach who was working with our DBs during spring practice, will indeed be a member of the staff going forward. This will be Kevin MacNeill‘s second time coaching in the E-W game.
