Last night in front of a full banquet room at the Delta Hotel the 78th recipient of the Ted Wildman Memorial Trophy was announced. The trophy, awarded since 1932, goes to the senior or graduating player who has “exemplified to the highest degree the traits of sportmanship, leadership, gentlemanly conduct and who has maintained good scholarship.” The 2011 season winner is Jedd Gardner. Former Wildman Trophy winners in attendence included Rob Keith , Steve Stewart , Bill Sproule , Bill Morrison  and Dave Clarke . Click here for a complete list of the previous winners.
Jedd Gardner, who finished his Gryphon career as the all-time team leader in receptions and receiving yards, was also named the Gryphons’ 2011 Most Valuable Player for which he received the Donald Forster Trophy. Gardner has also been a multi-year Academic All-Canadian and had the highest GPA of any varsity athlete at the University of Guelph.
For the fourth year in a row the Rookie of the Year trophy was presented to a defensive player – defensive end Jordan Thompson. In 2011, Thompson started 7 of 8 games on the d-line. He played alongside the previous three winners of the award – DT Kalven Seilis , DT Cam Thorn  & DE Mike Millar . Other nominees for the award were Jazz Lindsey, Alex Charette and John Rush.
