Niagara All Star receiver commits

A member of the Lakeshore Gators teams that reached back-to-back Golden Horseshoe Bowls in 2009 and 2010, receiver Jesse Benson will bring his game to Guelph in 2012.  Benson was named a Niagara AAAA All Star by the league’s high school coaches.  At 6’2″ and 185 pounds Benson primarily played in the slot for Lakeshore.  Benson also made the Golden Horseshoe Region Top 100 in 2011.  His highlights show him to be a sure-handed, possession-type receiver which makes me wonder if he won’t end up as a wideout at the Z receiver position.

Lakeshore Catholic has been a Niagara powerhouse for more than a decade under head coach Rocky Dipietro, a CFL Hall of Fame receiver himself.  So I think we can be certain that Benson will be a tough competitor and solid football player.  He is definitely a sound blocker and not afraid of catching the ball in traffic.  Benson will join a handful of other Lakeshore grads at Guelph.  Benson has also played football with the Niagara Spears and he’ll join a couple dozen former Spears who play for the Gryphons.
