Many good defensive linemen can play very well and not accumulate a lot of stats. Not so for Elias Mensah, a 6’1″ 250lb defensive end from Brampton Notre Dame. Statistics seem to follow him. In seven high school games in Peel’s Tier 1 league, Mensah recorded 8 sacks and assisted on 3 others, forced 4 fumbles and blocked 3 passes. While he missed the final two regular season games with an injury this leader of the Knights defense returned for their ROPSSAA championship playoff run.
Likewise, as a team captain with the Brampton Bulldogs Mensah put up impressive numbers in the OVFL this past summer. Mensah was in on 41 tackles (16 solo & 25 assists), had 5 solo sacks, assisted on 3 more, forced 3 fumbles and returned them for 57 yards. Mensah was a difference maker for the Bulldogs when I watched them play this summer. It seemed to me that he was very powerful making him appear to play bigger than his actual size.
