When I read that Steve Mburanumwe was “one of the top three offensive linemen coming out of high school in Ontario” I couldn’t argue with that. I have seen this 6’4″ 280lb OT play numerous times with the OVFL Hamilton Ironmen and the Bishop Ryan Celtics. Forget about all the honours he has won, you just had to look at all the recruiters who swarmed him after games to know he was an elite prospect.
Speaking of honours, he was a 2011 OVFL All Star, Most Valuable Lineman in the 2011 Steel City Bowl and a two time Golden Horseshoe Region All Star. Mburanumwe was a dominant left tackle for a high powered Ironmen offence that reached the 2011 OVFL Championship game. Mburanumwe will be the third member of that Ironmen O-line to become a Gryphon, joining recruit Tyler Case and freshman Vlad Vesovic.
Mburanumwe was highly recruited by most schools in the CIS and heard from several NCAA programs because he is extremely athletic and very powerful. Mburanumwe will contribute early due to his athletic ability and speed. He is capable of playing either tackle or guard.
