Another Hamilton lineman commits to Guelph

Wow! Guelph has received a commitment from another of Hamilton’s top offensive linemen.  I watched more than twenty high school games in Hamilton this year, both Public and Catholic.  Without a doubt Jordan Young of Waterdown District was one of the best linemen I saw.  This 6’3″ 275lb interior lineman is something of an “under the radar” pick-up for Guelph.

The Waterdown Warriors were one of the power programs in Ontario from the mid-90s until 2005.  Former Gryphons David Harrison, Jeff Cain and Chris Decker all came out of that school.  There were many other Waterdown grads from that era who played in the CIS, NCAA and CFL. The fact that scouts may not have made it to Waterdown as much recently worked to Guelph’s advantage this season. Young wasn’t as widely recruited as most players with such great potential.

Young captained this season’s Warriors squad which made their return to the Hamilton Public Schools championship game. Young has also played with the Wentworth Panthers football program.  Young has good size and the footspeed to play in the new Guelph offense which demands more athleticism from its linemen. Young is also an outstanding rugby player. Already very strong, Young is training hard with a former Waterdown lineman, Dillon Guy a starting guard with the University of Buffalo.
