University of Guelph freshman John Rush has parlayed an outstanding inaugural season into an invitation to play for Team World at USA Football’s International Bowl on Wednesday, February 1 in Austin, Texas. The International Federation of American Football has selected fifty players for the IFAF World Team roster that will face Team USA. Rush will be one of thirty Canadians who will join players from American Samoa, Australia, Austria, France, Japan, Mexico, Spain and Sweden to form Team World.
Rush played in all eight games for the Gryphons in 2011. He was a standout on special teams. He also saw frequent action at linebacker including a start at the Mac LB position versus Western. On the season Rush had 22 solo tackles, 20 assists including 3 tackles-for-loss and a sack.
Rush is a graduate of St. Michael’s CSS and the Niagara Spears football program.
More details on the Team World roster can be found here. The Team USA Under-19 roster will be made up of High School seniors almost all of whom will be NCAA Div 1 (FBS) recruits. Team USA won 21-14 in 2011.
