♦ The Guelph Mercury’s Greg Layson has two stories on the fast tracking of improvements to the stadium and track. A new synthetic turf field and upgraded stadium lighting could be in place for the 2012 football season.

♦ Over at gryphons.ca is a story on defensive back Zack Androschuk and his volunteer work on behalf of spinal cord research –Gryphon player urges support for people who live with spinal cord injuries. Androschuk will be entering his fourth season this fall.
♦ A former Gryphon football recruit, Graeme Mahar, a fullback out of Humberside Collegiate is making news as a rugby player – RUGBY’S GRAEME MAHAR ENJOYING SUCCESS WITH CANADA U20’s. The 5’10” 220lb Mahar was a member of the 2009 recruiting class. Mahar only played football as a freshman. In 2010 he concentrated on playing Gryphon rugby.
♦ Another member of the 2009 recruiting class was receiver Jason Diston. The 6’3″ 195lb Diston was also a track and field star finishing third in the CIS pentathalon as a freshman. Diston didn’t return to school in 2010 but played football for the Burlington Braves. He was one of several players from the CJFL invited to the Ticats training camp this month.
♦ To my knowledge the other Gryphons in CFL training camps are Jedd Gardner (Argos), Ryan Bomben (Alouettes), Dave McCoy (Blue Bombers) and Rob Maver (Stampeders). Of course, Kyle Walters and Mike O’Shea are “in CFL training camps” coaching with the Blue Bombers and Argonauts.
