Yesterday Gryphon Football announced the commitment of a long awaited recruit. This highly sought after player starred for the Golden Horseshoe Allstars in their victory last month over the GTA Allstars. He had a game high 3 sacks and even appeared in a photo (#25) with Guelph coaches and recruits following the game. But this blog’s report on the GTA VS GHR Allstar game made no mention of the mystery player #25.
Burlington’s Jordan Thompson had built a stellar reputation as a football player long before that Allstar game. The 6’3″ 210lb defensive end won back-to-back Golden Horseshoe bowl titles with Notre Dame and three consecutive OFC crowns with the Burlington Stampeders. One veteran coach has called him “the best speed pass rusher I have seen at the high school level”. High school and OFC teams were forced to double team him with a RB in all pass situations.
While Thompson is a bit undersized by OUA standards and ideally would add 15 or 20lbs while at Guelph, his great natural strength and superior technique combined with his speed and agility will allow him to compete immediately. As one GHR coach said “he was a monster” who dominated against some of Ontario’s biggest and best offensive tackles. Thompson joins Notre Dame teammate Daniel MacDonald in the 2011 recruiting class.
